Al Qaeda

The Jewish Standard:

The al-Qaeda-linked Al-Nusra Front is now sitting on Israel's northern border after taking over the Quneitra Crossing.

This is a very significant development.

Hamas’s Strategy Leads to Increased Casualties in Gaza.

Hamas's disastrous strategy | JPost | Israel News
http://www.jpost.com/Opinion/Hamass-disastrous-strategy-372554
«Hamas' prevarications all along the Egypt-led negotiations betray the disarray at which that organization finds itself. On July 17, Hamas rejects a cease-fire approved by the Arab League – requesting that Israel make concessions beforehand. On August 5, however, Hamas accepts without conditions the same truce that it had refused earlier.

(Had Hamas accepted the truce on July 17 rather than on August 5, the loss of human lives in Gaza would have been reduced by 90 percent). Subsequently, it refused to prolong the truce, only to backtrack again.»

Leon Trotsky: On the Jewish Problem (1937-40)

http://www.marxists.org/archive/trotsky/1940/xx/jewish.htm

Leon Trotsky seems quite prescient in his analysis of the problems related to the Jewish Question" but also naïve in his ideologically based assumption that World Democratic Socialism would relieve us of the scourge of Anti-Semitism.

In other words, he describes many of the difficulties facing the Jews, but his remedy has subsequently been shown to have failed.

Calling Israel’s actions "Genocidal" is a deadly lie - Fight the Blood Libel by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach

Calling Israel's actions genocidal is a deadly lie
«Through the course of this war in Gaza, Israel's third there since it withdrew fully in 2005, I have had to respond publicly to a number of friends and acquaintances who either intentionally or unwittingly committed themselves to the ranks of Israel's most rabid haters. This is especially true of those who joined the global blood libel chorus that falsely and poisonously accuses Israel of genocide.

I was fully aware that in doing so I risked losing those relationships. But I responded nonetheless. Not just to defend Israel and the Jewish people against the depraved charge of mass murder, but because I heard the cry of those who perished in the seven real genocides in the 100 years since the First World War, whose anniversary we commemorated this year.»

Anti-Zionism IS Anti-Semitism

http://jdlsl.wordpress.com/2008/07/08/anti-zionism-is-anti-semitism/
«Before responding to this, it is crucial to understand that this argument – that Israel's founding was illegitimate – is completely unrelated to anti-Zionism. An intellectually honest person who believes Israel's founding is illegitimate would still have to acknowledge that Zionism is an inseparable part of Judaism.

But the argument that Israel is illegitimate because its founding led to 600,000 to 700,000 Arab refugees is as anti-Jewish as is anti-Zionism. Virtually every country in the world was founded by displacing some of the people who had lived there, and many of those countries did far worse to far more people than Israel did. Therefore, anyone who calls only for Israel's destruction had better explain why, of all the states on earth whose founding was accompanied by the displacement of others, only the Jewish state is illegitimate.

Take Pakistan, for example. Unlike the Jewish state of Israel, which had existed twice before in history, there was never a country called Pakistan, nor was there ever any other independent Muslim country in the part of India that was carved out to create Pakistan. Moreover, if the Jewish state of Israel is illegitimate because it created 700,000 Arab refugees, why isn't the Muslim state of Pakistan, which created more than eight million Hindu refugees, illegitimate?

The answer is obvious. When people isolate the one Jewish state in the world for sanctions, opprobrium and delegitimizing, they are doing so because it is the Jewish state. And that, quite simply, is why anti-Zionism is simply another form of Jew-hatred.»

New Evidence somewhat Exonerates Neville Chamberlain

Neville Chamberlain was pretty much forced to play the role of appeaser. What's our excuse?
«But among historians, that view changed in the late 1950s, when the British government began making Chamberlain-era records available to researchers. "The result of this was the discovery of all sorts of factors that narrowed the options of the British government in general and narrowed the options of Neville Chamberlain in particular," explains David Dutton, a British historian who wrote a recent biography of the prime minister. "The evidence was so overwhelming," he says, that many historians came to believe that Chamberlain "couldn't do anything other than what he did" at Munich. Over time, Dutton says, "the weight of the historiography began to shift to a much more sympathetic appreciation" of Chamberlain.

First, a look at the military situation. Most historians agree that the British army was not ready for war with Germany in September 1938. If war had broken out over the Czechoslovak crisis, Britain would only have been able to send two divisions to the continent—and ill-equipped divisions, at that. »
Neville Chamberlain was right to cede Czechoslovakia to Adolf Hitler: Seventy-five years ago, the British prime signed the Munich Pact.

Tunnels for Terror

The Jewish Standard:
"From the 48 Hamas prisoners that have been captured, the intelligence have been interrogating them and the most terrifying, and horrific picture is being built.

"They are being investigated about the many tunnels that have been found and dug under many kibbutzim that surround Gaza. The most terrifying detail is being uncovered that Hamas had a plan to attack all the settlements and kibbutzim in the area this year on Rosh Hashanah with an invasion of over 200 terrorists into almost all the settlements in the area. The tunnels went under the kibbutzim under the kindergartens and dining rooms and other areas within the kibbutz perimeters. They planned to occupy the whole area and kill as many Israeli as possible.

"This could have been the worst terror attack in the history of terrorism. Thousands of people, including women and children would have been slaughtered in this planned attack.

"I think now we start to understand how dangerous these tunnels really are. They all have to be destroyed and we cannot leave even one undetected or unattended to. These tunnels are more dangerous than any rocket or any other weapon."

Why I left one of the most influential Christian families in the world - by Finis Leavell Beauchamp

«It may seem incredible that a young man who had plowed through everything from Sartre to Schopenhauer to Sikhism in a quest to get at some type of metaphysical truth after Christianity would have neglected to investigate Judaism or the Jews. In order to fully explicate this curiosity I must provide context.

First, as a former Evangelical Christian, I had been indoctrinated since infancy with the notion that Judaism used to be a religion – but was no longer. Judaism was a Broken Covenant that had been firmly supplanted, or repaired, by Christ. I had never once read the Old Testament without seeing it through the lens of the New Testament. It would have been akin to reading the American Constitution without mentally interjecting the Bill of Rights at every stage. It was inconceivable to me that there could still be persons roaming the earth, two millennia after Christ, who believed in the Law of Moses, and nothing more.

Second, while it had never been explicitly taught, I had simply imbibed, perhaps in the very air of the South, that the Jews remaining on earth were not members of a religion, but were rather a distinct racial group – similar to Africans or Asians. ...»

A Tale of Two Ages, Darkened and Enligthened

Once Upon a Time there was a Mommy and her beautiful baby daughter Samah. The daughter grew to be an adorable young girl, but the Mommy, wasn't too smart.
Once day the little girl Samah fell and hurt her leg. While the Mommy tried to take care of little Samah, she refused to see the local doctor, Learsi. You see Dr. Learsi was so advanced, he was deemed to be an evil wizard.

Finally, Samah's leg turned colors and so the Desperate Mommy reluctantly went to Learsi to heal her beloved child.

Dr. Learsi declared "Gangrene has set it" and so he cut off Samah's infected leg. There was blood. There was pain. Samah, was now deformed. But Learsi had saved Samah's life.

There are 2 endings to the story. Please pick one.

1. The Mommy realized that despite Samah's loss, Dr. Learsi saved her daughter's life. She fell into deep gratitude and herself learned to become more enlightened in the ways of modern medical miracles.

2. The Mommy screamed in horror. She saw blood. She saw guts, she felt pain. She screamed, ranted and cursed. She committed to oppose modern surgery as just human butchery. She became even more backward and more intolerant. Her goal was to discard her Samah on the trash heap of history by offering her as human sacrifice to her benighted god of hatred, in order to destroy Learsi.

The end.

Antisemitism on rise across Europe 'in worst times since the Nazis' | Society | The Guardian

http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/aug/07/antisemitism-rise-europe-worst-since-nazis
«In the space of just one week last month, according to Crif, the umbrella group for France's Jewish organisations, eight synagogues were attacked. One, in the Paris suburb of Sarcelles, was firebombed by a 400-strong mob. A kosher supermarket and pharmacy were smashed and looted; the crowd's chants and banners included "Death to Jews" and "Slit Jews' throats". That same weekend, in the Barbes neighbourhood of the capital, stone-throwing protesters burned Israeli flags: "Israhell", read one banner.

.....

"These are the worst times since the Nazi era," Dieter Graumann, president of Germany's Central Council of Jews, told the Guardian. "On the streets, you hear things like 'the Jews should be gassed', 'the Jews should be burned' – we haven't had that in Germany for decades. Anyone saying those slogans isn't criticising Israeli politics, it's just pure hatred against Jews: nothing else. And it's not just a German phenomenon. It's an outbreak of hatred against Jews so intense that it's very clear indeed."»

L'affaire Dreyfus, une Autre Fois?

It was the original Dreyfus Affaire that prompted Herzl to seek an Asylum for Jews in Zion!

The irony is that Europe is making a STRONGER case for Zionism than at any time in recent history,
«The case of France
France is today the poster child of the resurgence of European anti-Semitism. But, says Foxman, "There's an irony about it."

"If you were to ask me about a country dealing with anti-Semitism in a responsible way, it would be France," he says. He gives a nod to Jacques Chirac, who during his rule saw a Jewish school bombed in 1995 and was spurred to action in 2002 by a surge of attacks in Istanbul and an attempted bombing of a French Jewish day school.

"Chirac woke up and realized it could have been a much worse disaster," says Foxman, who explains most countries are in denial of their latent anti-Semitism. France, however, set up an interministerial task force, has provided the Jewish community with security, and "every expression of anti-Semitism has been met with very serious condemnation, starting with the prime minister and president," says Foxman.»

Mussar from the Natives - Guard Your Traditions

As Ben Zoma states
מסכת אבות פרק ד

ד,א  בן זומא אומר, איזה הוא חכם--הלמד מכל אדם, שנאמר "מכל מלמדיי, השכלתי" (תהילים קיט,צט).

And as the Rambam advises us, we can accept the Truth from any source.

From a Canadian Indian Elder -
"The Creator told everyone of us in our tribal beginnings to look after our ceremonies, and each other."
-- Barney Bush, SHAWNEE

Our ceremonies are important and each has a purpose. They teach us about the Creator and about each other. The ceremonies teach us to be humble and teach us to pray. They teach us to look inside ourselves. We should remember to pray each morning.
Ask the Creator to guide our thinking. Think only good thoughts.
Think good thoughts about our relatives and about our brothers and sisters.
Pray for our children in ceremony. Give thanks to the Great Mystery of life.
All life is sacred. Pray in a sacred way.

American Jews and Religious Freedom: Thoughts on the Hobby Lobby Case - Douglas Aronin

« The Supreme Court's decision, at the end of its most recent term, in the case of Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., has ignited a storm of controversy out of all proportion to its rather minor practical significance.   The decision's critics appear to consider it a major assault on women's "reproductive freedom," to use a common buzz phrase.  Its defenders see it as a milestone in the protection of religious liberty.

They're both wrong.  The critics are wrong because the decision in the Hobby Lobby case — in which a commercial employer sought a religious conscience exemption from the Affordable Care Act's requirement that employer-provided health coverage include coverage for contraceptive services at no extra cost to the employee – ultimately turned on the ease with which the government could assure the employees access to the mandated coverage without infringing the employers' religious liberty.  The decision's defenders are wrong if they believe that the case signals any diminution of the Supreme Court's ongoing hostility to claims for infringement of the right to the free exercise of religion.  Indeed, the Hobby Lobby case was not a constitutional case at all.  It involved, rather, the interpretation of Congress's intent in passing the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA).»

IL FOGLIO OP-ED:ON THE CONFLICT IN GAZA

FROM AN ITALIAN NEWSPAPER OPED

IL FOGLIO OP-ED:ON THE CONFLICT IN GAZA

Israel Holds the Free World's Destiny in Her Hands
These stubborn Israeli Jews are alone - alone in resisting in a battle for all of us.

Giulio Meotti

Published: Sunday, July 20, 2014 12:45 AM

The people of Israel are valiant, going about their daily lives knowing that Muslim killers might explode a bomb or rocket in any public place at any time.

Even more valiant are the Israeli soldiers, who are now fighting inside Gaza, house by house, spied on by cruel eyes, hated by old and young, targeted by beheaders, longed for by their families. These lone Jews fighting in a long night hold the free world's destiny in their hands.

The world is burning with jealousy of Israel and what it achieved for its people in a mere 65 years.

These stubborn Israeli Jews are alone - alone in resisting in a battle for all of us. It has been calculated that since the year of the founding of the state, more than 60,000 rockets have fallen on Israel. The Israelis are victimized and they are alone, abandoned by the world — now, just as then.

In the Second World War, hope didn't come from the Western avant garde, but from the Jews who rebelled against tyranny. The same is happening today

Open any Western newspaper and you will read about the trendy Israeli life under Hamas' rockets, life as usual, while the Arabs die. No mention of Israel as the most heavily bombed nation in the world. No mention of the trauma inflicted on two generations of Jewish children.

Israel is the first line of Western defense in the battle for non-Muslim survival and prosperity in the world. And now that the Jews are running for shelters and employing their brilliant Iron Dome, the world is burning with jealousy of Israel and what it achieved for its people in a mere 65 years.

For the UN, for the Christian bodies, for the White House, for the European Union, for the complacent public opinion and its journalistic sentinels, an independent Jewish State bearing the name “Israel,” with Jerusalem as its capital, a renewal of life in the land of the Bible, a vital Jewish people restored after 2,000 years to its own holy land, has raised unresolved questions and disturbing conclusions.

The Israelis are a very special people because they know how to live in the present and make this present worth living, while the West has drained its peoples' souls and made their lives meaningless, with only shallow-minded hedonism and materialism remaining. This is why Gentiles often hate the Jews.
The sagacious American author Eric Hoffer gave voice to the most tragic Holocaust-related 20th-century truth: "I have a premonition that will not leave me, as it goes with Israel so will it go with all of us".

A peaceful and unique nation like Israel and its people have to resort to violent means to survive. My heart breaks for them.

Getting Rich on Religion

The Jewish Standard:

Dear Rabbi,
I read about rabbis in Israel who offer cures, amulets, talismans and the like to their followers. They attend their followers' family events and give advice to businessmen. The rabbis receive fees for these services, and sometimes they are given lavish donations. Some of these rabbis have become quite rich; some are multimillionaires. Forbes has published a list of the richest Israeli rabbis. I personally think these guys are despicable con men who use religion to prey on vulnerable people in need of help. Shouldn't we do something to stop these people?

The Jewish Standard - Gratitude to Senator Robert Menendez

Senator Robert Menendez serves as chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and was instrumental in pushing funding for the Iron Dome missile-defense system through Congress.

He's New Jersey's senior U.S. senator, of course.

So as we listen to Israeli radio and nervously await the next report of missiles, we can know that we are not only listening to Israel's war. Through our US senator, and our government, we are helping to fight it.

And for that, senator, we are grateful. Thank you.

Rabbi Asher Lopatin Wants Conversation amid Controversy.

«"A lot of the discussion has not been about the halachic merits of women doing this, but about tradition. Rav Schachter's voice is very important. He's a big gaon" — a genius. "Let's hear his arguments and discuss them.
"When a chasidic rebbe says something, you don't argue with him. When a rav" — that is, a non-chasidic rabbi, a Talmud scholar —"says something, you argue, you look at the sources," he said. "I hope that when there is change there are people who shry gevalt against it, because change should not be undertaken lightly. It needs to stand up to challenge.

Rabbi Lopatin's praise for Rabbi Schachter actually conceals a sharp dissent, because Rabbi Schachter rejects the idea that his rulings can be debated. In a ruling published this winter opposing "partnership minyans" — prayer groups that call women to the Torah and allow them to lead certain prayers — Rabbi Schachter began with a lengthy discussion of how only rare Torah giants should be allowed to rule on weighty matters, and he implied that even one of his best-known colleagues on the RIETS faculty did not pass muster in his eyes.»

As head of Yeshivat Chovevei Torah Rabbinical School, Rabbi Asher Lopatin wants conversation amid controversy.

HuffPost: Israel-Gaza Conflict Puts Interfaith Relations To The Test By: Jaweed Kaleem

« When a group of Arab college students visiting New York met last week for a Ramadan iftar, they were greeted with an unexpected keynote speech.

Rabbi Marc Schneier, head of The Hampton Synagogue on Long Island and the leader of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, an interfaith-oriented nonprofit, had come by for what initially seemed simple and routine: Sharing about his religion and his belief in Muslim-Jewish friendship. Instead, he addressed the tension in the room full of Muslims, and the space between his views and theirs on Israel and Gaza, now on day 24 of fighting with more than 1,300 dead. Israel and Hamas agreed to a 72-hour ceasefire that begins Friday.

"I don't see an end to this conflict until more Muslims speak about against terror and evil in their midst," Schneier said in an interview, paraphrasing his speech at Nusantara, a Muslim-run charity, to students who hailed from Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen and Turkey.

Afterward, prominent New York mosque leader Imam Shamsi Ali, who was hosting the event, had his turn to speak. "I, too, blame Hamas," he said later, recalling his words, "but I also blame Israel, which has killed thousands of innocent lives."

That kind of polite back-and-forth is something she's only more recently learned to finesse through her interfaith experiences, said Chaudry, the former president of the Muslim Coalition of Connecticut. "You get so committed to the echo chamber, that you don't even see what the narrative is in the other community," she said. "So how do you strategize about how to talk to them about what you believe is happening in Israel and Palestine? In some instances you stand firm, such as that the occupation must end."

During such conversations, Chaudry finds herself turning to words from Imam al-Shafi'i, a famed 9th century Muslim jurist. "I believe my opinion is right with the possibility that it is wrong," she quoted him, "and I believe the opinion of those who disagree with me is wrong with the possibility that it is right."

HAMAS Rockets

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/para/hamas-qassam.htm

«Israeli Intelligence Minister Yuval Steinitz noted that since Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, Hamas had used the territory as a staging ground for rocket attacks, launching more than 14,000 rockets and mortar bombs [it is not always possible to tell the two apart]. Since Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, the IDF reported in 2014 that terrorists from the strip had fired more than 8,000 rockets into Israel. At the outset of the war in 2014, he estimated that the Hamas had about 10,000 rockets on hand. By the end of July 2014, he reported that some 2,600 had been fired, and another 3,000 had been destroyed by Israeli combat operations. Of the thousands of rockets launched by terrorists at Israel since July 8, by 30 July more than 280 had landed inside the Gaza Strip.

By comparison, in 2002, Israeli papers estimated that the HizbAllah had about 10,000 rockets. In his May 2005 "Resistance and Liberation Day" speech, Sheikh Nasrallah, the HizbAllah's charismatic leader, bragged about possessing "more than 12,000" rockets. A noted Israeli analyst disclosed that on the eve of HizbAllah's 2006 campaign, the HizbAllah had about 14,000 rockets, of which about 10,000 were "short-range" (i.e. with a range of 20 km or less).»

«On the other hand, the Jordanian army declared war on the Palestinians in 1970, killing 3,000 in a ten-day rampage which became known as Black September. Palestinian civilian casualties

«All Palestinian civilian casualties in this conflict result ultimately from Gaza terrorists' aggression against Israel, and Hamas's use of human shields — the most important plank of Hamas's war-fighting policy.

"So are you going after innocent civilians or is it incompetence Colonel Lerner?" asks the interviewer, her face contorted with a contempt apparently reserved only for Israelis. Such shrill disrespect hurled at an American or British officer would alienate viewers, and, at an Arab commander, provoke accusations of racism.

This line of questioning – repeated across the networks on a daily basis – betrays a naïve and uncomprehending willingness to believe, and encourages viewers to believe, the absurd notion that the Israel Defence Force [IDF] is commanded and manned from top to bottom by psychopathic baby-killing thugs.

To suggest that military incompetence is the only explanation for civilian deaths other than deliberate mass murder reveals a breathtaking but unsurprising ignorance of the realities of combat.»

Disproportionate?

On the Anniversary of Hiroshima, 6 August, 1945
consider how virtually every military victory is a result of a Disproportionate Response -

Attack on Pearl Harbor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_on_Pearl_Harbor

In total, 2,403 Americans died and 1,178 others were wounded during the attack

Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_bombings_of_Hiroshima_and_Nagasaki

Within the first two to four months of the bombings, the acute effects killed 90,000–166,000 people in Hiroshima and 60,000–80,000 in Nagasaki; roughly half of the deaths in each city occurred on the first day.

The Jewish Standard: Hareidim in Solidarity with IDF

The largest haredi (ultra-orthodox) hassidic groups in Israel have called off the Summer break, which usually runs from the Fast of the Tisha B'Av (Aug. 5) to the Hebrew month of Elul (Aug. 27), in solidarity with the Israel Defense Forces.

The Belz Rebbe Rabbi Yissachar Dov Rokeach said that "now is not the time for yeshiva students to go on vacations and hikes when soldiers are engaged in war and Israel's security situation is so severe, and emphasized the widespread belief in the haredi world that the merit of Torah study provides spiritual and even physical protection for the Jewish people."

The large Gur, Belz, Viznitz and Sanz hassidic groups, among others, are all expected to cancel the usual summer vacation activities for students, and maintain a substantial study program in yeshivas.

Islamic terrorism is a form of terrorism[1] committed by Muslims.

In trying to complete a list of Islamic- Inspired Violence since the year 2000. The number of hits simply crashed the memory of my smartphone!

Pakistani Facebook blasphemy case sparks mob riot, 3 killed Published time: July 28, 2014 11:29

«Two children and their grandmother, who belonged to a religious sect, have been killed in Pakistan by an Islamist mob, after a sect member was accused of posting blasphemous material on Facebook. Four others are in a critical condition.

A seven-year-old girl, Hira, her baby sister Kainat, and their 55 year-old grandmother, Bashiran Bibi, were killed, after their homes were set on fire, the Ahmadiyya Times reports. The three family members were Ahmadis, who consider themselves Muslim but believe in a prophet after Mohammed. A 1984 Pakistani law declared them non-Muslims and many Pakistanis consider them heretics.»

UN Hijacked by Hypocrisy and Cynicism

The Jewish Standard:
It's difficult to know what to make of the United Nations' condemnation of Israel's defensive actions, when it seems to obvious that this war, finally, is one that the free world should be able to understand. This video attempts to explain the current state of the United Nations.

Former deputy-Foreign Minister and Israeli Ambassador Danny Ayalon produced this video, explaining, "Hypocrisy and cynicism have taken over the United Nations, the delegitimization perpetrators and Israel boycotters take advantage of the UN's image as an advocate of human rights in order to pass anti-Israeli resolutions which attempt to isolate Israel. It is important to spread the truth that the UN has been transformed into a political arena by undemocratic states who trample on human rights, and UN resolutions must be treated accordingly."

Mussar: Sinat Chinum

We are told that the churban Bayit Sheni, the destruction of the Second Temple, was a result of sinat chinum. But what does this term mean?
Most define it in the realm of "cause", focusing on a negative cause for hatred -- which is then expanded by many individuals to include any reason for hatred.
Is it true that there are no possible acceptable or even good reasons to hate? More significantly, though, is one able to control this emotional response of hatred?

Reviewing the sources regarding the concept of sinat chinum brings someone into the halachic discussion on hatred in general.  This discussion focuses on how one should deal with this emotion, and what is the correct effect of hatred, not on hatred's cause. In this light, the term sinat chinum may not really be describing anarchy in the causes of hatred but rather anarchy in the effects of hatred.

Further on this subject, I invite you to read a further discussion of this issue in Nishma Insight 5757-22,23: Defining Sinat Chinum on the Nishma website.

Expressing the points of view contained in your article in LANCET seems contrary to the express mission of the publication.  In particular, LANCET's is supposed to be a publication that is "independent, without affiliation to a medical or scientific organization [that] seek[s] to publish high-quality clinical trials that will alter medical practice…" The mission further asserts that LANCET is committed to "critical appraisal of research".

I wonder what research you've done, from a medical perspective, upon all unfortunate souls caught up in this tragedy.  An article that is written without fealty to the point of view of one combatant group, that is truly independent, would not focus solely upon the adverse effects of warfare on that one combatant group.  If, as the LANCET editor, you truly exhibited "a zeal to counter the forces that undermine the values of medicine, be they political, social, or commercial", you would have been forced to take into consideration all of the human aspects of this terrible tragedy. However, your article does not address the psychological impact on a population that has been shelled over 2,000 times over the last two weeks by a terrorist organization which, as part of its charter, vows to wipe Israel off the map. Which also targets civilians and has detonated numerous suicide bombs over the years.
Such a one-sided article is like writing about a very sick patient in the ICU with multi-system organ failure and focusing on just his renal insufficiency. If you where a specialist (a nephrologist, say), that is all you would focus on.  But if, you were the critical care specialist in charge of that patient's well being, you would focus on the whole patient, not just his kidneys. You are just focusing on one part of this tragic situation while disregarding the events leading up to it. Disregarding rockets being hidden in civilian areas, hidden in UN facilities, in hospitals and schools. As an issue of national security, the tunnels must not only be destroyed, but the ability to create new tunnels must also be neutralized. I could go on and on.....
Reed Elsevier, LANCET's owner, asserts in its mission statement that it helps "scientists make new discoveries…[and] doctors save lives". Choosing to serve as a Western proxy for a contested point of view certainly does not align with that mission.

You've brushed your political point of view with the patina of free expression.  The phrase "freedom of speech" is not to be taken lightly in a country governed by the First Amendment and isn't a silver bullet for the validation of unexamined and one-sided points of view. As I suggested at the beginning of this note, you've confused the message with the forum.  Even our Supreme Court has recognized that the manner, place and time of expression are relevant optics for analyzing whether or not speech can be regulated.  One can't shout "FIRE" in a crowded theater on a lark when there's no fire and escape liability for the physical harm caused by the resulting stampede by shrugging their shoulders while weakly uttering "hey, free speech man".
The forum IS relevant and LANCET is not the forum for one-sided political speech.

I trust that we both find racism odious.   I also trust that we'd recognize a racist's free speech rights on a soap box in Hyde Park.  But, we'd also both be troubled by their expression, couched in medical jargon, in LANCET. And for this reason, I find that LANCET's legitimacy and credibility are at risk. Certainly, I won't be able to continue to read a medical publication that does not apply equal rigor to all that it chooses to publish.
