Matisyahu on Sacrifice, Unraveling, and Prayer

«Matisyahu, the artist formerly known as the "Hasidic Reggae Superstar," recently transformed himself into introspective poet and deeply spiritual, if less visually shocking performer. His new album Akeda (Hebrew for the word "binding" and most often used in the biblical story of the sacrifice of Isaac) includes more of the upbeat tunes he's become known for since shearing his trademark beard and side curls. But Akeda also contains haunting songs hinting at the depths of personal metamorphosis that inspired the songs. And Matisyahu shared some of his inspiration and deep connection to God with me.»
