Magic: Making YU Disappear

Magicians - often dressed in silk top hats - have been making things disappear from sight for many years. It's a "Traditional" trick. Certain segments of our community have a similar illusion, making YU disappear.

Here are some of my favourite examples of this legerdemain.

1. At the L'vaya of RMF Z"L 3 maspiddim had YU affiliations

Rav Nissan Alpert Z"L
Rav MD Tendler Yl"Ch
Rav Tendler's son

And poof! Like magic YU was not there. It disappeared into a [silk?] black hat.

2 During the 1980's Rav MD Tendler was maggid Shiur some Daf Yomi shiurim given on the "dial-a-daf" line

While mentioning a long line of his yichus and accomplishments, Poof! No YU!

3. When Rav Dovid Lifshutz Z"L was introduced at Mizrachi meetings he was a Rosh Yeshiva at RIETS, etc.

At Agudah gatherings he was "The Suvalker Rav" Poof! No YU

4 At Ner Israel a Rebbe once spoke and quoted an "Adam Gadol". When asked who? He responded "Rav Y'rucham Gorelick". Poof! No YU

Ironically, these people probably wanted to save the world about having to know that YU exists! Yet for many, it demonstrated a lack candor in such a way that makes their OWN remarks disappear in insignificance. Middah k'negged Middah.
